The DEF Injection Control System

DEF is a liquid solution that reduces emissions from vehicles through the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) process. It is composed of urea and water and can be found in two basic forms - single scale and dual scale. Single scale models offer a simple urea by weight readout and dual scale readouts display the refractive index. This is the most commonly used type of DEF and is the most widely used in the industry.

The DEF system is incredibly easy to maintain, as it can be carried out at regular intervals and requires no special tools. However, regular maintenance is required to keep the DEF filtration system operating correctly. A DEF filter needs to be replaced every two years or so. This can be a hassle, but the process is quick and easy, and will only take a few minutes. If the DEF filter is too dirty, the performance of the vehicle will suffer.

The DEF injection control system is designed to help maintain DEF levels at high levels and prevent the occurrence of leaks. The DEF filter is often cleaned using a special cleaning product. Regardless of the type of DEF, the funnel should remain clean and free of contaminants. Similarly, spare DEF should be stored in its original container with the cap securely on. It should not be transferred to any other container as urea is highly corrosive to metals.

The SCR system is easily maintained and can be done at regular intervals as is standard for chassis maintenance. Changes to the DEF filter are quick and easy, but they must be completed correctly. The replacement cycle is measured in years. If the DEF filter is not changed, the performance of the vehicle will suffer. Most manufacturers have added new indicators to the dashboard and onboard display to inform the driver of the status of the DEF system.

The DEF is available in various packages, including one gallon jugs and two-gallon drums. Most commonly, 55 gallon drums are used, which may not be refilled. A hand pump or an electric drum pump is typically mounted on the top of a drum. Likewise, totes are used for 275- and 330-gal capacity, and a pump can be mounted on the side or the top.

The DEF injection control system controls the amount of DEF in the fuel tank. It controls the volume of DEF that enters the engine, but it is not the only method. Its effectiveness is determined by its ability to reduce the number of pollutants in the exhaust stream. A refractometer will show the amount of water in the DEF. This means that the SCR can reduce NOx without the use of the SCR.
